Community Service (PkM) to Birgitta Branch WKRI Community and PKK RW 03 Marga Mulya

Oral health plays an important role in maintaining overall body health. However, the prevalence of oral problems in Indonesia is still high, with more than 90% of adults having untreated caries, and only 7.4% having access to dental health services. Poor oral hygiene, such as many cavities and untreated gum disease will trigger chronic inflammation that can further impact the emergence of various systemic disorders such as heart and high blood pressure, diabetes, pneumonia, nutritional deficiencies, and oral cancer.

The above problems can arise due to a lack of public knowledge of the importance of maintaining oral health, including members of the WKRI Birgitta Branch and PKK RW 03 Harapan Mulya, as stated by Mrs. Elisabeth Sudarmi, SE (Coordinator of Education of WKRI Birgitta Branch) and Mrs. Eka Yusrika (representing PKK RW 03 Harpan Mulya). Therefore, as a form of practicing the Tridarma of Higher Education, the team from the Faculty of Dentistry, Trisakti University held Community Service activities in the form of Education and Training on Maintaining Dental and Oral Health by Making Home Mouthwash for the WKRI Community Birgitta Branch and PKK RW 03 Marga Mulya on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at Posyandu Dahlia 1 Marga Mulya Village.

The 50 participants who participated in this activity showed good enthusiasm. Educational material in the form of causes of caries and its prevention, various systemic diseases that arise due to poor oral hygiene, demonstration of how to clean teeth and mouth properly, and making home mouthwash with natural and affordable ingredients, this activity was delivered by the implementation team chaired by drg. Firstine Kelsi Hartanto, MClinDent, Sp.PM, with members Prof. Rahmi Amtha, drg, MDS, Sp.PM(K), Ph.D, drg. Aryadi Subrata, Sp.KG(K), drg. Sheila Soesanto, MKG, drg. Albert, Sp.Perio, drg. Dick Yonathan, Beby Sophiana, SKG, Nafia Syifa, SKG, and Haura Agni, SKG, drg. Christian Henry Tedja, MM, and Dwi Wahyu S.Kom. It is hoped that through this activity, the awareness and skills of the community in maintaining oral hygiene for themselves and family members will increase, so that their quality of life can be well maintained.
